Every Engine Fitted to the Vauxhall Insignia
This table maps every engine fitted to the Vauxhall Insignia across its two UK generations. The Insignia's engine range comprises two core families; outputs shown are typical UK figures. A conditional hub covers late Mk I 1.6 CDTI diesels, and a significant number of additional engine families were omitted from the original Vauxhall BRF and are marked as missing for escalation.

Used or Reconditioned — Which Insignia Engine to Buy?
Used Insignia engines
For the A14NET 1.4 Turbo, used engines from low‑mileage examples are often the most cost‑effective option. The B20DTH 2.0 CDTI is also widely available used due to high UK volume, making this the cheapest route for most Insignia diesel buyers.
Reconditioned Insignia engines
For the A14NET 1.4 Turbo, timing chain stretch is a known issue — reconditioned units with updated chains may offer better reliability. For B20DTH 2.0 CDTI, used engines are widely available and represent the most cost‑effective option.
Insignia Engines Through the Generations

Insignia
The Insignia launched in 2008 with 1.6 115 PS, 1.8 140 PS, 2.0 Turbo 220 PS, and 2.8 V6 Turbo 260 PS petrols, alongside three 2.0 diesels: 110, 130 and 160 PS. A 1.6 Turbo 180 PS arrived in 2009 with OPC/VXR 325 PS variants. The 1.4 Turbo 140 PS replaced the 1.8 from 2011. A 2.0 BiTurbo diesel (195 PS) appeared in 2012. The 2013 facelift brought 1.6 SIDI Turbo 170 PS and 2.0 SIDI Turbo 250 PS petrols, plus revised diesels from 120 to 195 PS. The new‑generation 2.0 CDTI 170 PS (B20DTH) arrived in late 2014, with 1.6 CDTI diesels (120/136 PS) following in 2015. The second‑generation Insignia launched in 2017 with 1.5 EcoTec Turbo petrols, 1.5 CDTI diesel, and B20DTH continuing from the Mk I. A 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI (210 PS) arrived later. Production ended in 2022.
Insignia Engine Buying FAQs
The Insignia's core engine range includes the A14NET 1.4 Turbo petrol and B20DTH 2.0 CDTI diesel. A conditional 1.6 CDTI covers late Mk I diesels. A significant number of additional engine families (2.0 Turbo petrol, 2.8 V6, 1.8 petrol, earlier 2.0 CDTI variants) were omitted from the BRF and await escalation. Across the two generations, the Insignia used a broad mix of GM Ecotec, SIDI, and CDTI families, with outputs from 110 PS to 325 PS.
Check the V5C registration document for the engine number; the engine code is also stamped on the engine block plate. Insignia engine codes include A14NET, B20DTH, A20DTH, A20DTE, A20DTR, A20NHT, A28NET, A18XER, A16XHT, B16DTH, and others. For transition years between Mk I and Mk II, confirming the chassis code (G09 vs Z18) alongside the engine code ensures correct fitment.
For Insignia's A14NET 1.4 Turbo, timing chain stretch is a known issue — reconditioned units with updated chains may offer better reliability. For B20DTH 2.0 CDTI, used engines are widely available and represent the most cost‑effective option. For other Insignia engine families, used units are the default choice due to high availability across the dismantling trade.
All GMC engines are supplied with a standard warranty; delivery is to UK mainland addresses. Buyers should confirm engine code matches their vehicle's V5C before purchase. Every unit is verified for fitment before dispatch, with delivery arranged via our trusted logistics partners.
