Used or Reconditioned - Which Combo Engine to Buy?
Combo Engines Through the Generations
What engines were fitted to the Vauxhall Combo?
The Vauxhall Combo has used the 1.3 CDTi (Fiat Multijet) across all generations, the 1.6 CDTi (GM‑Isuzu) in the Combo D, and the 1.5 BlueHDi (PSA‑shared) in the Combo E, with petrol options including the 1.6 Family 1, 1.4 Ecotec, and 1.2 PureTech. The three main engine families span from 2001 to the present day. Petrol engines are less common, particularly on the later generations. You can check exact fitment by registration using our tool above.
Use the V5C registration document to find the engine code (e.g., "A13FD", "DV5", "EB2") or use the online DVLA vehicle checker or a VIN decoder. The engine code is also stamped directly on the engine block. For Combo B and D models, the 1.3 CDTi was the predominant diesel, but output varied by year. If your V5C shows a different code, we can match it directly to the correct hub.
The 1.3 CDTi is the most common Combo diesel; used units are plentiful, but reconditioned units offer better warranty. For the 1.5 BlueHDi, used stock is still emerging; reconditioned is recommended for peace of mind, especially for high‑mileage vans. For older Combo B models, a used engine often represents the best value, while Combo E owners typically prefer the long-term assurance of a reconditioned unit.
All engines sold through GMC come with a standard 12‑month warranty and free UK mainland delivery, with fixed prices and no hidden fees. Delivery is typically within 3–5 working days. We cover all UK postcodes with tracked, insured shipping. You can buy with confidence knowing your replacement engine is covered from the moment it leaves our warehouse.
