Used or Reconditioned — Which C-HR Engine to Buy?

Used C-HR engines

Given the C-HR's hybrid architecture, the engine unit includes the petrol engine and often the motor/generator assembly. Used units are available, but reconditioned units may offer better reliability for the hybrid system's specific components. Verify compatibility with the specific hybrid system version.

Reconditioned C-HR engines

Given the C-HR's hybrid architecture, the engine unit includes the petrol engine and often the motor/generator assembly. Used units are available, but reconditioned units may offer better reliability for the hybrid system's specific components. Verify compatibility with the specific hybrid system version.

C-HR Engines Through the Generations

C-HR

C-HR 2016-present

The first-generation C-HR (ZYX10/ZYX11, 2016-2023) launched in the UK exclusively as a hybrid, with the 1.8-litre 2ZR-FXE petrol-electric powertrain (122 PS combined). A 2.0-litre hybrid (M20A-FXS, 184 PS) was added with the 2020 facelift, expanding the range. No pure-combustion or diesel variants were ever sold in the UK market. The second-generation C-HR (ZYX20/ZYX21, 2023-present) continues as a hybrid-only model, offering updated 1.8 (140 PS) and 2.0 (197 PS) hybrid systems, both based on the same architecture but with improved power and efficiency.

C-HR Engine Buying FAQs

A

The Toyota C-HR is offered exclusively as a petrol-electric hybrid in the UK. Two engine sizes are available: 1.8-litre (2ZR-FXE) and 2.0-litre (M20A-FXS). No diesel or non-hybrid petrol variants exist.

Check the V5C logbook for the engine number – the first characters indicate the engine family (e.g., 2ZR or M20A). Alternatively, use the registration number on an online parts checker or consult the vehicle's VIN plate. The model badging (e.g., "1.8 Hybrid" or "2.0 Hybrid") also identifies the engine.

Given the C-HR's hybrid architecture, the engine unit includes the petrol engine and often the motor/generator assembly. Used units are available, but reconditioned units may offer better reliability for the hybrid system's specific components. Verify compatibility with the specific hybrid system version.
