For the high-volume saloon, coupé and roadster applications (Groups 1, 2, 3 and 5), used units are widely available given the strong donor parc, offering good value. For the direct-injection W212 application (Group 4\) and higher-value hosts, reconditioned units are more commonly selected given thinner used supply and vehicle value. Early M272 engines were affected by balance-shaft gear wear that made in-vehicle repair uneconomical, and cam-timing components are recognised wear points on higher-mileage examples — both reasons worn engines are typically replaced complete. Every unit we supply has the balance-shaft assembly and timing drive inspected as standard before dispatch.
