For high-volume compact applications (1/2/3/4 Series, X1/X2/X3/X4), used units are widely available given the strong donor parc, offering good value. For transverse applications (2 Series Active Tourer, Gran Coupe) and specialist applications (Z4), reconditioned units are more commonly selected given lower used supply and higher vehicle value. The B48 is BMW's modern 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, introduced in 2014 as the successor to the N20. While generally reliable, common wear points include coolant leaks from the thermostat housing, carbon buildup on intake valves due to direct injection, and timing chain wear on higher-mileage examples.
